Nicolas Levy
Born in 1984 in Nice, Nicolas Levy is an established photographic artist living and working in Oslo, Norway. After graduating from Les Gobelins in 2011, he began working as an assistant for various photographers such as Julien Mignot. At the same time, he also worked for Parisian studios and took part in exhibitions in Paris, at Galerie VIII in 2012 (gallery at Seine-Saint-Denis University). In 2013, he set up as a freelance photographer in Oslo. In 2018, he presented his work at the Playroom festival. Drawing his inspiration from his travels, it is in Oslo that his work develops. With the COVID crisis reducing artistic activity and exhibitions in recent years, Nicolas Levy has exhibited in restaurants and shops in different parts of Oslo. His latest project, UTSATT2021 (Utsatt is a Norwegian word that translates as ‘exposed/vulnerable’), is a social documentary project presenting a series of portraits of restaurant and hotel workers who have lost their jobs because of COVID. From 9 November 2022, he will be showing a selection of works from his Oslo & Moi series at Galerie Diapo. The fruit of almost ten years of photography in the Norwegian capital, his work draws a fine line between intimate and street photography. He explores the city through its inhabitants. Interested in the human theme, it is the geographically isolated communities that interest him. A spontaneous and sensitive witness, with a sometimes humorous outlook, he invites us to enter into his experience, that of an immigrant in Scandinavia, developing 3 themes: intimate photographs, a visual exploration of Oslo, and more humorous photographs. https://www.nicolaslevy.no/
